How to Tell Which Generation of Kindle Fire You Are Using
Amazon’s Kindle and Kindle Fire family has very confused naming strategy. Unlike Apple’s iPhone 3/4/5/6, Kindle Fire doesn’t name with generation number, instead they are called like Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD/HDX, Fire HD.
For the people who hears of Kindle Fire tablet at the first time, I bet they will get lost in these model names. For example, can you tell which is the later model between Kindle Fire HDX and Fire HD?
If many situations you need to know which generation of Kindle Fire you are using. Like searching for guide on the internet, decide which one to buy, sell a used Kindle Fire tablet, and so on.
In this article, I will list all the generations below and show you the characteristics of each generation.
The universal method to check your Kindle Fire generation
In fact, the model and generation information has been written in all Kindle Fire tablet’s system. With these simple steps you can get the information you need.
Go to “Settings” page
By sliding down from the top of Kindle Fire’s screen, you can activate this drop down menu. In this menu you can see “Settings” option.
Go to “Device Options”
In “Settings” page you shall see “Device Options”, which is located under “Display”. Please tap on this option.
Check the generation information
At the bottom of “Device Options” screen you can see “Device Model” information, where shows you which generation it is.
Like the screenshot above, you can see “Fire HD 8 (6th Generation)” clearly.
